SpicyChat Age Verification: Which States Are Affected, Why It Fails, and What to Do

Since June 2026 SpicyChat gates unrestricted content behind a video selfie check for users it locates in 26 US states, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Australia. The site still works there; the adult part waits behind the camera prompt. The check exists because those places passed age-assurance laws that apply to adult services, and more places are on the way. If the prompt fails or loops, it is usually the phone browser, not your age. A VPN moves you to a place without the law, which is what the law is designed to prevent. The alternatives at the bottom ask for a checkbox or a card on file rather than your face.

SpicyChat decides by location, not by account. A short video selfie, processed by a third-party verifier that estimates age from the face; a manual ID check with face match is the fallback when the selfie is inconclusive. SpicyChat's position is that it never receives the images or the ID and that the verifier deletes the data after the check. Take that with the usual caution: the verifier's own retention terms are what matter, and a 2026 source-code leak at one age-verification provider showed biometrics being kept far longer than advertised. Verifier outages. The check runs on a third-party service and it goes down separately from SpicyChat. If the site loads but the verification screen does not, wait an hour rather than retrying twenty times; repeated failures can rate-limit your account.
